TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHY YOU BECAME INTERESTED IN
WORKING FROM HOME?
My situation is a little different - as I work a full time job outside the home and work my business from home in the
evenings and weekends. My goal is to cut back my outside job to a part time position and continue to grow my
business while working at home. I have two daughters (7 & 12) and I want to be more flexible with their schedules
and enjoy the freedom that comes with being your own boss!
What type of training, experience or education?
My background is administrative - I have a degree in Business Administration and have worked in the oil and gas
industry as a Purchasing Agent for 10 years. This training also helps me with my home party business - and I've made
some great contacts over the years which are potential clients!
How do you work your business around your schedule?
My party business is strictly online and via telephone - which is quite easy to fit into an already busy schedule! My
husband and children are very understanding and supportive of when I am "at the home office" working in the evenings
and on weekends. I really try to limit the time I spend working at the business when the kids are home - although the
phone often rings at the worst possible moment!
How do you build your business?
I have been doing alot of networking with women's groups, link exchanges with other family friendly businesses for my
website, flyer distribution, generic mail outs, both print and web advertising, working with The Welcoming Committe
as a sponsor (similar to the Welcome Wagon). One of the best tools I have found is participating as an exhibitor in
Trade Shows. The last one I did was The Mom & Tots Fair and I received a tremendous amount of positive
feedback, sales, and really got the name and the product out there - which was wonderful to see.
What is your greatest sales tool?
My greatest sales tools are my products - absolutely. A Perfect Party is a really unique business concept set up for
busy parents and the conveneince of shopping from home and having your order delivered right to your door seems to
sell itself.
Where do you see the future leading you in your home business?
My goal is to eventually work my business from home exclusively and give up my outside job. I want to have the
flexibility to spend more time at home with my children and familyand not have to commute - but still grow my
business and run a rewarding and profitable home enterprise.
What advice for other Moms looking to work from home
Go for it! Since I started with A Perfect Party I am probably busier than I have ever been - but it has definately been
rewarding. I really enjoy watching the business take off and there is so much satisfaction that comes from working for
yourself. My husband and children have also been behind me, helping with trade shows, marketing materials, etc
which is very important too - as although it is work, we are working together and having fun doing it!
